Course Description:
This course provides an introduction to the field of cultural anthropology, a study of diverse living peoples throughout the world and to the methods used by anthropologists. It introduces the concept of culture as a framework for understanding similarities and differences in human societies. In addition, the course introduces cultural anthropology as a sub-field of anthropology, a holistic field that studies both cultural and physical diversity in past and contemporary societies.
Reflection & Class Expectations
For this class, I 'm pretty much going in blind as I haven't really taken an anthropology class before that wasn't mixed with history heavily. However, I do look forward towards learning more about the specific sub-cultures within the broader categories of each discipline. I do know that we are a class about Cultural Anthropology, so it won’t be as in depth in explaining the biological, linguistic, and prehistoric subfield. From what I’ve learned from class so far, all fields are connected by some form of culture, meaning that I should still be able to relate my learning to these other field in the future. I hope through this course I gain a better understanding of cultures and how to interact with/accept them.
